Ed Pearson with the Chris Ronaldson Trophy

Mick Dean congratulating Ed Pearson with the Chris Ronaldson Trophy

Ed Pearson and Paul Kettle squared up in the 2012 singles final to see who would be the first to hold the trophy twice. Ed made the best start taking the first set 6-1. Paul upped his game with tight drag serves, including one directly into winning gallery to move ahead in the second set. Ed almost escaped the 5-1 deficit but Paul closed out at 6-4 to even the match. In the final set Ed spent longer at the service end and edged ahead winning the set 6-3 and taking the title and trophy once again .

The 2012 doubles competition saw new winners yet again with Ed Pearson and Paul Miron getting the better of Simon Horobin and Paul Kettle in an exciting and closely contested 3 set final.

The final of the Radley Handicapped Singles was between the winners of the lowest and highest handicap groups, Mark Beard and Walter Thompson. The handicap was difficult to read let alone play to as it was: receive 30 owe 40, one serve, banned tambour and chases worse than 3, banned hazard chases when playing off chases, service end conceded after one chase. In the end Mark closed out to win 9-7.

Congratulations to both players for making it this far and especially to Mark for retaining composure and concentration. Mark will be invited to represent Radley in the Chetwood Trophy at RTC to find the Nation’s handicap singles champion.
